Awesome skit

Watch it all the way through. It's definitely worth it.

My son's first Bible

In church today, my son - who just entered first grade - was presented with his first Bible. (All first graders in our school are presented with Bibles at the beginning of the year's Sunday School.) When the pastor called his name to come forward, my son leapt up from his seat with his arms in the air and a huge smile on his face, and ran up to the front of the church to collect his prize. What a great moment! It's one of those moments you wish were caught on video tape.

At home, after lunch, I took him aside and showed him some Bible verses that I knew he'd like. They are some of my favorites. The first was Proverbs 18:10:
The name of the LORD is a strong tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe.

Then Psalm 61:3
For you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the foe.

Ephesians 3:16-19:
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

And Ephesians 6:10-18:
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

He thought they were pretty cool. He got a particular kick out of learning that the Bible - the word of God - is a sword (and I taught him the difference between it and a metal sword).
